Onlytomi returns with “Frenemies,” a captivating new single blending her style, which is categorized as pop and has elements to transport listeners on an introspective journey through the song.

“Frenemies” combines synths, pulsating beats, and simple but catchy melodies to tell a story, or rather “her story.”

The song, like its title, is somewhat of a prayer against all enemies that are disguised as friends. She paints a reality and imagination, inviting listeners to distance themselves from such people.

Onlytomi’s introspective lyrics took the reality of the everyday person into themes of prayer, uncertainty, and loyalty, painting vivid imagery of the harsh truths of human nature.

This single is packed with intricate melodies and subtle instrumentation (hats off to the producer). I particularly like that the rhythms were not distracting or clashing with the artist’s vocals, giving the listeners some room to hear and process the lyrics properly, as layers of synth pads and percussions create a rich and immersive sound from start to finish.

Onlytomi’s vocals sit effortlessly above the music, conveying vulnerability and introspection and drawing listeners into the emotional core of the song.

I had initially given kudos to the producer. But I’d do so again. I do not want to say the production is almost what made the song “the song,” but the producer showed impeccable production skills with a clean mix. The arrangements allowed each element to shine while maintaining simplicity and clarity.

Onlytomi is a mesmerizing storytelling artist, and I believe she should dedicate more time to her writing and release more music, as her fans would be wanting more.
