The Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation case has been dominating the internet for a while now. Everyone seems to be talking about it. Everyone seems to have an opinion on it.

People are even starting petitions.

To get Amber Heard fired from all future films, for example. As one of these petitions states:

Johnny Depp is an amazing actor and a wonderful man. He has brought so much joy in the many movies he has done and all the public appearances he has taken a part in. Since May of 2016, Johnny Depp has been accused of physical abuse by his then-wife Amber Heard.

I believe it to be unfair that Johnny Depp is getting railroaded just because he is a man. I have no doubt that if he were a woman, none of this would be happening to him.

And this scares me.

First of all, saying this never would have happened to Johnny Depp if he were a woman is (in my opinion) ridiculous.

I think it’s extremely important to raise awareness of the fact that men also suffer domestic abuse, but let’s not forget the countless female victims of abuse that also weren’t believed (or weren’t heard in the first place).
