Let’s face it, it can be really challenging to get your alumni to do things.

Over the past 40 years, alumni participation has declined by 50%. Whether it’s fulfilling a pledge, signing up to be a mentor, or attending an event, participation rates are falling across the board. Declining email open rates and ignored phone calls make reaching your alumni more difficult than ever. And getting them to attend, give, and volunteer is an even bigger challenge many schools are facing.

But some universities are reversing this trend by using the peer-to-peer texting platform Hustle to quickly build real relationships with their alumni and drive long-term participation. This year, Spring Hill College used Hustle to invite their alumni to watch a livestream of their most recent graduation!

With Hustle, Spring Hill College saw a 44% increase in viewers over the two previous years.

“Every year, it was really difficult to get alumni to watch the livestream, but this year the stream was flooded! Lots of viewers, more than ever before! And now our IT guy is a Hustle Fan!” - Cris Smith, Director of Annual Giving

In previous years, relying on email to invite alumni to join the livestream made it difficult for Spring Hill College to capture an audience.

But with Hustle, Spring Hill College was able to gain 1430 alumni visits to their website!

Texting their alumni was an effective way to get them to participate — and with the donation link on Spring Hill College’s graduation livestream, Hustle helped increase their potential donor pool without their annual giving team even having to ask!
