When using Hustle, the most important thing is getting all of your contacts’ numbers uploaded into the platform and getting those messages out, right? Well, not exactly. Let’s talk data, and why it’s essential to strong, relationship-based Hustling.

Text is a very personal form of communication that cuts through the noise of emails and robocalls. This is essentially why it is so important that the messages you send are genuine and include the right information.

The most important lesson I’ve learned about data over the years is that behind every record and number there is always a person. With that in mind, there are a few simple things that you can do to make sure that your supporters feel that you respect them and your relationship:

• DON’T YELL AT THEM — Make sure you are not uploading anything in all caps, especially their name! If this happens, it’s easy to correct this so that it’s in the proper format.

• Don’t start your message with a looooong pause — Sometimes excess spaces that might be present in your data can become exported with your data into your csv file. Make sure you trim your columns before you upload them into Hustle, or you may end up with extra spaces between words.

So take an extra minute and look over your data before you upload it to Hustle, your supporters will thank you for it!
