Every year, progressives from all over the country and beyond gather at the Netroots Nation conference to discuss innovative organizing tactics, preview the latest technology available, and hear from progressive leaders. This year, almost 3,000 attendees came to New Orleans to participate in 80+ panels, 60+ training sessions, caucus meetings, inspiring keynotes, and lots of social events. Hustle participated in all of these events and here’s just a preview of what we accomplished together!

Hustle Sponsored Panel “Building Relationships Where it Matters Most”

“Politics has always been relational. But, the challenge has been that the campaigns that we run end up feeling a little industrial, a little mechanized and not necessarily in a way that feels personal. So looking at relational tools that allow you to do that is critical for us.” — Cliff Walker, Campaign Services & Candidate Recruitment Director at the Texas Democratic Party.

For our sponsored panel, attendees heard from experienced organizers and campaigners on how they use Hustle and other tools to build authentic relationships with supporters, voters, and community members. One of the key questions we asked was “how can we actually cut through the noise and meaningfully engage our communities?” Over the course of our panel, we delved into how champions at organizations like the Human Rights Campaign, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Democratic Party of Georgia, and the Texas Democratic Party use relational tools like Hustle to organize in their communities.

You can view the video of our panel on Netroots Nation’s website here.

“New Phone Who Dis? How to Text Your Community And Not Be Gross” Panel with our very own Lloyd Cotler

Hustler Lloyd Cotler participated in an invigorating panel with folks from the DNC and Emily’s List to discuss the best use of this innovative technology. Texting has become a vital part of progressive campaigns and advocacy organizations and can be the difference between winning and losing. The panel offered an overview of the differences between subscription and peer-to-peer SMS, how they work together (and how they don’t), and offer recommendations for your campaign or organization’s mobile strategy.

“I wanted the panel to be an opportunity to give advice on how to best use Hustle and other SMS tools on campaigns. Texting is an extremely effective way to reach people when done right. We were able to successfully give attendees concrete tips, best practices and test ideas for their campaigns. Afterward the panel several attendees remarked how useful the takeaways were and how they could really use what we all said in their work.” — Lloyd Cotler, Solutions Architect at Hustle

Hustle and M&R Sponsored “Sips and Sammies” Social Event

Netroots Nation is the premiere gathering of progressives from all over the country. What better way to celebrate together than with a brass band, some food, and beverages? We co-sponsored a social event with M&R consulting and invited Netroots Nation to join us. We had over 400 people attend our event, hear from an amazing local brass band, and enjoy the beautiful weather in New Orleans!

What We Learned
We learned that people, campaigns, and progressive organizations are looking for new and innovative ways to build authentic relationships with voters, supporters, and members. Hustle is fundamentally changing how organizations engage the world to reach their objectives. We are proud to be a partner in this movement and so excited to work with all the amazing progressive organizations and campaigners that attended Netroots Nation. See you next year in Philly!
