It’s crunch time. With less than 7 weeks until the general election, it’s safe to say that we’re approaching the best time of the year. Whether working for a candidate, advocacy organization, labor union, PAC, or community group, we appreciate all of the hard work being done to ensure that voters make their voice heard this November!

Each year, millions of Americans are unable to vote because they haven’t updated their registration info, aren’t sure how to register, or have missed the registration deadline.

National Voter Registration Day, which falls on Tuesday September 25th, is a concerted effort to avoid these outcomes and make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote. Join the Hustle community in celebrating this day by using peer-to-peer texting to register voters and raise awareness!

As online voter registration continues to become more accessible, campaigns are increasingly using Hustle to engage with unregistered voters, direct them to voter registration sites, and provide assistance as they’re getting setup. Below are some best practices and tips that we’ve gathered along the way.

Best practices for using Hustle for voter registration:

  1. If you have a list of unregistered voters in your district, let them know that records show that they aren’t registered, but it’s not too late!

2. Not sure if the people in your list are registered? Try the script below!

3. Send a Follow-Up message to everyone who said they would register.

Tips

Additional Scripts

Already Registered: Encourage them to double check their registration status and spread the word to their family and friends.

Can’t Vote/Rights Restored: Ask if you can count on them to encourage their family and friends to register. Additionally, some states have recently passed legislation that restored the right to vote for millions of citizens. Have a script which provides resources to check their voting rights status.

Wrong number: Ask if they know of their registration status and provide info to help them register.

Notes:

A. If you’re looking for a great voter registration website, consider using Vote.org. Their voter registration tool helps voters across the country register in less than 2 minutes! Additionally, they provide a comprehensive set of resources regarding voter registration and voting in their respective state.

B. 37 States plus D.C. have online voter registration. If you’re in a state which doesn’t have online voter registration, use your Hustle conversations to encourage voters to register via mail or at their local election office or DMV!
