As we await the final results of the 2020 Election, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the successes of our clients, and the impact that Hustle and peer-to-peer texting had on the 2020 election cycle.

When Hustle sent the first peer-to-peer text message in September of 2014 to advocate for immigration reform, we had no idea how essential P2P texting would become to political campaigns and advocacy efforts of all kinds. Over the past six years, we’ve supported the efforts of incredible clients, from national nonprofits advocating for racial justice and environmental defense to labor unions fighting for the rights of workers, and — now in our third election cycle — Democratic campaigns and committees up and down the ballot.

We started this year investing in Hustle’s stability, scalability, and performance, knowing the huge stakes of the 2020 election. When Covid-19 spread throughout the country, impacting the efforts of every field organizing program, we doubled down on those investments, knowing full well that our clients would depend on Hustle to communicate with their supporters and voters more than ever. It was critical to their success — and the future of our country — that we could support extremely high usage in the run-up to the election. We are proud to report Hustle’s 100% uptime and availability for the 2020 cycle.

As in prior cycles, Hustle delivered real-time information and created a two-way conversation for voters with questions between candidates and voters on voting rules, ballot drop-off locations, evolving voter registration deadlines in cities, counties and states, and more. This year, with state and local rules changing by the day — many with the goal of disenfranchising Democratic voters — that ability to deliver information and respond to questions in real-time was more critical than ever.

For the entire 2020 cycle, Hustle delivered more than 475 million text messages on behalf of our clients including progressive and Democratic organizations. Our secure platform supported over 1,500+ campaigns and committees and sparked conversations with more than 31% of Americans.

We are proud to have supported Senate and Congressional winners:

  • Jay Inslee’s reelection for Governor for Washington
  • Sarah McBride’s campaign in Delaware to become the Nation’s first transgender State Senator
  • Mark Kelly’s election to the U.S. Senate in Arizona
  • Chris Coons’s re-election to the U.S. Senate in Delaware
  • Mondaire Jones, becoming the first openly gay African American Congressman for New York
  • Nikema Williams, winning the Congressional seat from John Lewis in swing state Georgia
  • Joe Neguse election as Congressman in Colorado
  • Ayanna Pressley’s re-election as Congresswoman in Massachusetts

As we wrap up the 2020 cycle (and look ahead to runoffs in Georgia!) our mission at Hustle remains the same: to strengthen relationships by scaling genuine human conversation. We are proud that our invention of P2P texting has helped Democrats and progressives accomplish so much, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support the critical work of all of our clients.

And please: don’t hesitate to contact us if we can help with your future efforts!
