Views and lists of books read by our members in March 2021

As in February, the count of books we read in March was also a smaller number. Maybe it was because of the financial year close and folks had to put up with increased work load or maybe it was just the tiring summer heat. Whatever the reason, we still have a not an unimpressive list.
First a few write-ups.

Views

Muralidharan Parthasarathy: I would once again thank HydRAW only for making me read to share monthly reads. I have read a poetry book and a collection of classical stories. My write up is below:

  1. Poetry pieces of Europe- An anthology of contemporary European poetry ebook published by eminor.eu. Among others, poet Candia Salajan impressed me most because of the poet’s metaphors like phoenix bird, morning star and back drop of El Dorado, Samurai, Vampire, floral kimono, geisha, caesar, Sisyphus, Vishnu, Rama, Sita, Shangri La and Valhalla. Her relating to world culture is a role model.
  2. World’s best short stories: Volume 1 GP Edition, Anton Chekov, Sir Arthur Canon Doyle, Charles Dickens, James Joyce, Jonathan Swift, Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, Tagore, Rudyard Kipling and Virginia Woolf are the authors. The most surprising one was Jonathan Swift’s story ‘A modest proposal’. The entire story is a proposal by a learned man where he proposes that poor kids starving here may be chosen like one each from every poor family and exported to cannibals. The story was written in the 18th century and his satire in those days of romanticism and idealism is really very surprising and he stands out among classical authors.

Arun Kumar (on Jungle Nama): this book is in verse form. Author followed the pattern of the folklore of Bengal that describes the deities that are worshipped as a part of Sundarbans.

Manohar Grandhi (on The Compound Effect): This is a workbook in the nonfiction genre. It talks about making small changes and persisting that small changes by making these small changes as habits. The initial results of small changes are very small but then a stage comes when the small habits pick up momentum and give massive results. The book has a lot of examples of people who made very small changes in their life and reaped massive results.
