Powerboat racer pulls ‘dangerous’ stunt around river freighter

Say what you will , this is not very good PR for the racing community at large. Come on guys be smarter then this please.

BAY CITY, MI — The big race formerly known as River Roar motors into Bay City this weekend, but one ambitious powerboat driver gave spectators a show a couple days early, pulling off a stunt that the U.S. Coast Guard is calling dangerous.
Sometime after 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, a driver piloted his powerboat down the Saginaw River at a high rate of speed at the same time as the Menominee freighter was heading toward an open Liberty Bridge near downtown Bay City. The driver cruised past the 616 foot freighter on the east side of the river before making a sharp left turn and completing a lap around the vessel.
The act was likely witnessed by hundreds of people who were downtown Wednesday. The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a Great Lakes Regional Business After Hours event in Wenonah Park that evening. A free concert in the park followed that event attracted about 3,000 people.
