Write Better Tweets for Your NFTs: Six Tips for NFT Creators
We all spend a lot of time on Twitter. We all find a lot of community, connections, and collectors there. At times Twitter can feel overwhelming and oversaturated with NFT art and projects. Now more than ever, artists and creators need to stand out from the crowd. Do this by writing better tweets and giving collectors and your Twitter followers more information about your NFT art and project. As an artist, I spent a lot of time learning what helps make a good tweet. As a collector, I know what I look for when scrolling through my timeline.
1. Write your tweet for someone seeing your art or project for the first time. I’m sure you have a lot of followers, friends, and frequent collectors that already know who you are and what you’re doing, but what about new people? What do you want to tell new collectors? If your goal is to get your tweet and your NFTs out to new collectors, write your tweet for someone that knows absolutely nothing. Attract new collectors and new followers with a few words introducing your art and your project.
2. Yes, we can see the picture. Now tell us why your art or project is special. Write about what we are seeing. What is the story behind the NFT? What is the concept or theme? Does this NFT have any unique attributes? If it is “rare” what makes it rare? How did you make the art? Why is your NFT unique or special? Does the art have a certain mood or emotion? How do you as the artist feel about your art? It is better to fill your tweet with information about your NFT to help collectors decide to collect than to add tags or hashtags that get you marked as spam.
3. Link directly to the NFT either in this first tweet or as a reply. Make it easy for collectors to get what they want. If the link pulls up an image from the website, delete that image. Post a jpeg or gif image of your NFT in addition to link. This step is important so that everyone can see the art as they scroll through Twitter. Often collectors will look at the media tab on your Twitter profile to find your art if your Twitter feed has a lot of retweets. Any jpegs you post will show up in your media tab, and collectors can quickly scroll through all your NFTs.
4. Create a Twitter thread. Threads help increase engagement, give you more space to tell your story, and allow you to link multiple tweets about your NFTs together. It is easy to create a thread when you promote a collection, a drop, or multiple NFTs together. Start with one tweet introducing the entire collection. Then post replies with the individual NFTs, including links. If you spread out your replies to this thread over a few hours or a few days you will increase your engagement and the Twitter algorithm will show your tweets to more people.
5. Avoid tagging too many people and using too many hashtags. Use that space to give useful information about your NFTs. Only tag people that want to be tagged, and only use hashtags if you actively comment to other people using that hashtag. Tagging more than three people or using more than three hashtags will make you look like spam to the Twitter algorithm and Twitter will shadowban you.
6. Writing in English is hard! Use tools like grammarly.com and ask for help from the community. Post in the HypeDAO discord for help, and we can work together. Make a good tweet template that you can cut and paste and then update with the exact details of each NFT. You can also write in multiple languages in one tweet. Write your translations in as many languages as you want.
It is always a good time to improve your writing, sales, and marketing skills. When the market is down and sales are slow it is an especially good opportunity to take some time to learn new skills and techniques. Writing better tweets is an important skill to have in the NFT community. Writing well will help your status as an artist, and hopefully help you sell more NFTs!
