Hyperlane is excited to introduce 1-click interoperability and bridging across our deployments in collaboration with Skip Protocol.

Skip API now offers Hyperlane Warp Routes, Hyperlane’s token bridge primitive, everywhere across its API integrations. This means Hyperlane Warp Routes are aggregated into seamless interchain bridging and swaps on Skip’s ibc.fun, leading DeFI exchanges, and wallets like Keplr and Leap. Hyperlane reaches new users, and Skip gains access to unique warp routes on new modular rollups. Win-win.

This integration unlocks 1-click interop within Hyperlane between Cosmos and any non-IBC compatible ecosystem. Navigating the Modular Expansion will be even smoother now.

What is Skip API

The Skip API is an interop platform designed to make the entire modular ecosystem feel like one blockchain. Skip API helps developers create seamless cross-chain user experiences using a variety of underlying cross-chain messaging protocols, including IBC, CCTP, and now Hyperlane. It abstracts away the fragmented bridging experience for developers and users, and combines it into one unified experience that any UI can integrate.

The API is integrated into major Cosmos user interfaces such as Keplr and Leap Wallet interchain swaps, Astroport, Stargaze, Skip’s in-house ibc.fun, and many more. Developers use Skip API to create tens of thousands of transactions and move tens of millions of dollars in tokens every day.

Why Hyperlane

Permissionless Interoperability

The growth of the Cosmos and modular ecosystems are bringing many new chains and assets to market. But they’re launching so fast that it’s impossible for any traditional bridge to connect all of them. Traditional interoperability providers like LayerZero, Wormhole, Axelar need to manually deploy on every chain. So you end up with a long queue of chains that need bridges, and politics behind the scenes with the core team to move up the queue. This restricted form of interop doesn’t scale.

The only possible way to scale to all these new modular rollups is with Permissionless Interoperability. With Permissionless Interop, Hyperlane enables anyone to deploy interoperability and bridging to their chains. Interop for everyone.

Imagine Skip as a trip planning aggregator like Kayak or TripAdvisor. Traditional interoperability providers mostly support the same big hotel chains while Hyperlane brings a unique long tail supply like Airbnb or Vrbo.

With Permissionless Interop, Skip gains access to unique routes that only Hyperlane can support and scale to.

Out-of-the-Box Bridges

Hyperlane offers Warp Routes, our permissionless token bridging primitive. Warp Routes enable deployers to open up permissionless bridging for any asset between any Hyperlane-connected chain. Combined with Permissionless Interop, it’s especially useful for assets and chains that existing bridges won’t support.

What’s New

A common pain point of Hyperlane today is connecting our EVM <> Cosmos warp routes to the broader Cosmos IBC network. For example, bridging TIA back from Manta to Celestia or other Cosmos chains is a two step process.

First, you have to burn TIA.n on Manta and unlock it on Neutron. Then, you have to create a separate IBC transaction to send TIA from Neutron to Celestia or any other Cosmos chain.

Now with the Skip integration, your TIA can be bridged easily to any other Cosmos chain!

Timeline: Expect this integration to be fully completed by early April. First in the Skip API and then Nexus.

What’s Next

We’re planning a future where the Hyperlane x Skip stack will enable automated Warp Route deployments on new rollups. 1-click bridging and swaps for any asset with a Hyperlane warp route, abstracted into smooth UIs like Keplr Swap or ibc.fun with the Skip API.

Start swapping/bridging on ibc.fun or Nexus now.

Special Thanks

Thank you to the Skip team for sharing our vision of extending IBC to the Ethereum ecosystem.

And thank you to our many Manta & Nexus users who helped surface these UX pain points, including @smol_thots and @CryptoPeta — we hear you and please keep sending more feedback!

More about Hyperlane

Hyperlane is the permissionless interoperability layer connecting the modular ecosystem. With Hyperlane, anyone can connect any blockchain, rollup, appchain, on any VM. Additionally, Hyperlane’s modular security stack gives developers the power to customize their interchain security to their needs.
