We’re hyped to announce that Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is now live on mainnet with Hyperlane as a launch partner.

Circle first introduced CCTP to help developers build seamless user experiences for sending and transacting USDC natively across blockchains. Specifically, CCTP enables USDC to teleport across blockchains via a programmatic burn-and-mint process. At Hyperlane, we’re focused on building interoperability solutions to help developers improve the interchain user experience, so naturally CCTP was a seamless fit for our vision.

New CCTP Features — Powered by Hyperlane

Hyperlane’s integration with CCTP enables developers to build interchain USDC experiences directly into their apps and deliver a streamlined UX for users. Hyperlane takes CCTP to the next level, incorporating multiple features unique to Hyperlane:

Permissionless Interoperability:

Hyperlane’s flagship feature enables anyone to deploy the Hyperlane interoperability stack out-of-the-box on any chain and access the benefits of interchain interoperability. The stack includes everything from CCTP (of course) to interchain message passing to interchain token bridging with Warp Routes. We envision Permissionless Interoperability will accelerate USDC liquidity to more chains and users, and improve the adoption of early chains.

Modular Security:

Hyperlane’s modular security stack powers a safer user experience by enabling CCTP developers to stack additional security layers to filter out threats. Complement USDC interoperability with customizable Interchain Security Modules (ISMs). You can customize your app’s security with out-of-the-box ISMs such as economic security or optimistic security or build your own. You can also stack additional security layers such as safety parameters that filter out hacks or customize your own to give users a period of time to edit their transactions.

Streamlined Developer Experience:

Hyperlane’s APIs and SDK streamline the interchain developer experience for Circle’s CCTP. Unlike other interoperability protocols, this integration is built natively into Hyperlane’s core API to deliver a streamlined developer experience for easy access to CCTP from any Hyperlane supported chain at launch.

Smoother User Experience:

The current interchain user experience is clunky and complex with users needing to use bridges just to move value. This is poor UX and a significant barrier for new users. Hyperlane + CCTP simplifies this experience exponentially by moving the complexity of blockchain interoperability and value transfer to the application-level instead of user-level.

The improvements on interchain developer experience, user experience, and security, can ultimately accelerate the adoption of USDC as the most seamless source of liquidity anywhere.

How Permissionless Interoperability Extends USDC’s Reach

Looking forward, we believe the most compelling feature is Permissionless Interoperability. You can already permissionlessly deploy Hyperlane out-of-the-box to any chain, and with CCTP integrated now, you will be able to extend USDC further than ever before (starting with Circle-supported Ethereum and Avalanche at launch). We envision anyone building with modular Hyperlane-supported rollup stacks like Celestia Rollkit, Caldera, Eclipse, etc. will be able to launch with both Hyperlane interoperability AND access to USDC liquidity out-of-the-box. Launching a chain with USDC liquidity and interoperability will become a must-have for any new chain.

More about Hyperlane

Hyperlane is the first Permissionless Interoperability layer, enabling anyone to connect any blockchain, out-of-the-box. With Hyperlane, developers can build Interchain Applications, apps that abstract away the complexity of interchain interactions and serve users on any connected chain. Additionally, Hyperlane’s modular security stack gives developers the power to customize their interchain security. Hyperlane development is open-source and led by core developers at Abacus Works.
