Imagine a world where there can be mass adoption of decentralized applications without the threat of data breaches? A borderless economy in which people and machines collaborate and exchange value globally and freely, but with the highest grade of security? A world without gatekeepers or intermediaries, but there is absolute trust and your identity is fully protected? A world in which communities thrive, unconstrained by artificial borders and archaic regulations, but through self-governance, and control of personal data rests with the individuals to whom it belongs?

Sounds almost surreal. But for those who have been working on making a decentralized future a reality, this is just expected. The world is well on its way to making this happen.

Problem #1

Ethereum is the blockchain development platform of choice, but it has limitations like low throughput, poor UX (gas, delayed PoW finality) and no sovereignty (shared throughput/clogging risk, tech stack not customizable, governance dependence).

Problem #2

Security threats and privacy breaches that come with doing nothing more than our daily browsing and use of apps. Most customer-facing applications rely on either third party authentications like OTP-based authentication or social logins such as Facebook, Google and the likes. This is a critical issue for the developer ecosystem as well, building applications that will spread the benefits of decentralized technology for mass adoption.

The Solution

Enter Polygon and Hypersign, two companies that are solving these two problems respectively. They’ve entered into a partnership that will open up the best of both worlds — an open, decentralized, unconstrained world with a secure, consent-based and respectful way of establishing connections and trust.

Polygon is a protocol and a framework that effectively transforms Ethereum into a full-fledged multi-chain system (aka Internet of Blockchains). This multi-chain system is akin to other ones such as Polkadot, Cosmos, Avalanche etc. with the advantages of Ethereum’s security, vibrant ecosystem and openness. With polygon, any project can easily spin-up a dedicated blockchain network which combines the best features of stand-alone blockchains (sovereignty, scalability and flexibility) and Ethereum (security, interoperability and developer experience). Additionally, these blockchains are compatible with all the existing Ethereum tools (Metamask, MyCrypto, Remix etc), and can exchange messages among themselves and with Ethereum.

Polygon is building new features around the existing proven technology to cater to diverse needs from the developer ecosystem while also developing the core technology to expand to a mass consumer base.

Hypersign is a protocol that solves issues related to user-level security, authentication, verification and authorization of user data. It combines Decentralized Identifiers with Public Key Infrastructure and blockchains to deliver unparalleled security at an affordable price point. Hypersign is on a mission to:

  • Eliminate data breaches
  • Empower individuals to regain control of their personal data
  • Democratize security for enterprises at an affordable price point

How Hypersign & Polygon will work together

In the first stage, the Hypersign team will deploy their DID layer on the Polygon Network, and provide support for the Polygon Network in the SSI SDK. This deployment would enable any team looking to use Polygon for the Identity layer to use the DID registry layer.

Arjun Kalsy, VP Growth at Polygon says, “We’re pleased to collaborate with Hypersign to supercharge Decentralized ID (DIDs) on Polygon, and we believe this is a strong first step to empowering users and protecting their privacy.

The partnership also enables users of the Polygon Network to access Hypersign’s cutting-edge Password-less Authentication, Verification and Authorization services. And on the other side, it will allow Hypersign users to access Polygon’s low cost transaction functions.

Irfan Khan, Co-founder of Hypersign says,

It’s an honor and a real pleasure to be working with Team Polygon to develop and deliver DID technology. Polygon has been instrumental in the mass adoption of decentralized applications and now they will outdo themselves again with bringing decentralized ID to everyone.

This is just the beginning of a long and strong partnership between the Polygon and Hypersign teams, bringing the efficiencies of secure ID and Access Management to the decentralised ecosystem. The best of all, we are all in this together to fight against the centralisation of users’ personal data and privacy.

About Polygon

Polygon is the first well-structured, easy-to-use platform for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development. Its core component is Polygon SDK, a modular, flexible framework that supports building and connecting Secured Chains like Plasma, Optimistic Rollups, zkRollups, Validium etc and Standalone Chains like Polygon POS, designed for flexibility and independence. Polygon’s scalability solutions have seen widespread adoption with 200+ Dapps, ~23M txns and ~364K unique users.

If you’re an Ethereum Developer, you’re already a Polygon developer! Leverage Polygon’s fast and secure txns for your Dapp, get started here.
