Play to Earn Versus Play and Earn

While Nifty Island has been in conception for several years already, we are undoubtedly still in the very early days of Web3 gaming. Metaverse gaming and blockchain integration are starting to pick up mainstream coverage, and the established AAA gaming industry is gently dipping its toes in the pool.

As such, while it’s still in the early stages, we at Hypeverse think it is important to clarify the key distinction between ‘Play to Earn’ (P2E) and ‘Play and Earn’ (P&E). We take the concept of fun and community to heart, adopting this as a core philosophy when choosing potential game partnerships for our audience. We want the Hypeverse to be a place of fun and recreation — intertwining the ‘earn’ aspects of the community in a softer, more organic way. We’re listening to the community, and we intend to exclusively host games you want to play, instead of something you might one day feel obliged to play.

That’s our idea of Play and Earn. With this approach, we hope to foster an environment that puts content first, favoring genuine quality and fun over repetitive gameplay loops and borderline predatory monetization like we often see in the mobile gaming industry.

A Case For The Return Of The Classic Arcade Hall

Some are too young to remember the golden age of video game arcades and how it feels to meet up with friends and strangers alike over a common shared love: fun. Plain ol’ video game fueled social fun. With the release of home consoles and subsequently mobile devices, arcades have been lost to time. But what if we could revive the concept?

As a first important distinction from other projects in this space, all Nifty Island players on Hypeverse have their own island, for free, right from the beginning. There is a strict zero-barrier-of-entry stance on this, as everyone should be able to join in on the fun of expressing themselves. This offers equal opportunity for anyone to create and sprout their community around specific shared interests.

Once Nifty Island launches the Forge, you could imagine Nifty Island games — and the Hypeverse by extension — as a fluid collection of alluring arcades, filled with fun and exciting experiences (anyone remember Gmod Tower?). We hope players will naturally start forming communities around their favorite games and recapture some of the magic of playing Street Fighter II Turbo against a friendly stranger — Quarters down, winner stays, let’s go! That’s what we’re trying to accomplish with Hypeverse’s Nifty Island partnership. That’s the metaverse we’d like to see.
