Brand Consistency: The Truth Behind Why Consistency Is So Important

Over the last few weeks, we have talked about how important it is to create a brand for yourself, instead of relying on network marketing companies or products. Today we will talk about how important it is for you to establish brand consistency right from the beginning.

Have you ever seen an advertisement that as soon as it came on you knew exactly what company it was for? The big red bulls-eye screams Target, Clydesdale Horses are synonymous with Budweiser Beer. That is because those brands have worked very hard to be recognizable to you immediately.

As a network marketer, small business owner or coach you need to be just as recognizable. People should see a brand consistency across all social media platforms. They should see a post from you and know that it came from you without even having to look.

Businesses create this kind of experience by bringing consistency to everything they produce. Customers will likely interact with you multiple times before buying your service or product, and therefore you want to take the opportunity to build familiarity and trust with each interaction.

So how do you create this identity?

Brand Consistency- Start with the Visuals

Start with the visuals for your brand. This goes beyond just your logo and your website although that’s a great place to start. Beyond your logo, you want a cohesive set of colors, typefaces, icons, and layouts. The visual experience is a person’s first impression of your brand, and you want to build something that looks professional, represents what makes you unique, and connects with your ideal teammates and clients

Once you have your visual identity established, integrate it into everything you produce. You need to incorporate this into everything a person comes into contact with. No matter what a person stumbles upon from you, they should get the feeling of, “I bet this is from *insert your brand here*.” Your brand’s style is what sets you apart from everyone else out there doing the same things.

Remember we talked about how using a company replicated website was not good for you standing apart from the crowd. This was the first step in setting yourself apart in a sea of sameness.

Brand Consistency- But Won’t It Get Boring

To you, it may seem that using new looks each time you create a pin or start a new blog post will help you stand out. But it’s actually quite the contrary. What you see as possibly boring or redundant your viewers see as consistent and reliable.

I’ve talked about how clients buy from who they know, like and trust and creating brand consistency helps them along this path. It takes 7 to 12 times for someone to commit to memory something they have seen. So by creating a consistent, reliable brand, this helps them feel comfortable and that they can count on your for exactly what you are offering.

In addition to guiding your clients and potential teammates through the process visually creating a consistent brand makes it easier for you to publish blog posts, create graphics etc… You won’t have to search for fonts or colors or structure.

I learned early on that the more I could automate made it much easier for me to spend less time working and more time with my family and doing the things I love. I quickly created blog templates and used Canva to create a brand kit with specific fonts, colors, and visuals to make it super easy to create my content.

Brand Consistency: Apply Your Visual Identity to All Materials

You know that using your logo is important on your website but where else can you brand identity work for you? Your colors, logo, type fonts should be consistent throughout all materials. If you create invoices, proposals, documents you should incorporate elements of your brand into that.

Are you sending email updates? Make sure they match in the voice as well as visually. Your newsletters, social media post images etc… should all reflect the choices you made for your brand visually.

I recently updated my Instagram to become part of my cohesive brand look. Who knew that what your grid looks like can affect if people follow you or not?

Brand Consistency: Stay Consistent Both Online & Offline

So you’ve got all your social media outlets plugged into your brand but what about when handing out business cards? Carrying your brand identity offline is important too. Your brand should be immediately recognized even in something as simple as your client thank you notes. You want to immerse your audience in all realms.

Brand Consistency: The Psychology of it All

I want you to take a moment and think of who you “know” and “follow” online. The people who influence you, who you turn to for advice and knowledge. Maybe I’m one of those. Maybe you read my social media post and followed that to my Facebook page and then ended up here on this blog.

Think about what brought you to these people of authority and knowledge. Did you become aware of them on Instagram and decide to check out their blog and then a few months later they offered a free webinar or Facebook class like my Branding You Class and you decided to sign up?

You, my friends, have been in what we call a funnel. You may not have realized it but that’s where you were. By garnering your trust and allowing you to get to know these influencers slowly they’ve been guiding you along. Months may have passed between that initial first impression and you signing up for their course, or hiring them for a consultation.

What happened while you were watching them or me all these months? Were the messages you saw all over the place? Did the colors, fonts, visuals change hundreds of times? Or did we consistently show up time after time with the same look and feel? I blog every Monday. You know it and trust it. If you are clear who the influencers you’ve been following are and what to expect and you trust us and like us then we’ve effectively “branded” an impression by being consistent.

That is branding. The consistency has helped you remember us. It’s not magic, or something we just make up to sell classes, it’s truly how the human brain remembers things.
