Why Your Business Should be Blogging

Business Owners and Entrepreneurs should blog regularly

Do you have your own business?

Are you an entrepreneur?

Did you start your own business?

Well, blog about it.

I was going through a few of my old blog posts a few years ago and I came across a video and a blog post that explained ways to be successful in a tough economy and one of the ways was to write a lot and to be active and omnipresent.

One way to do that is to blog. It doesn’t have to be writing, it could be videos you embed in your blog or audio/podcasts you create.

Blogging is one of the best ways to get your name out about your business, tell your story, and brand yourself as an expert. Granted, I am very, very pro-blogging, so much so that I started CEO Blog Nation a few years ago as a fun project and extension of my thesis. It was also based on a column that I was writing for Patch profiling local entrepreneurs in the area and I was stuck in bed after tearing my Achilles. Lastly, I became infatuated with entrepreneurship years ago and it was a story that I felt wasn’t being told as well as it could—the great, good, bad and ugly of it. It was also something, that I saw as a need. So, I decided to work on a way to do it.

Blogging is vital for the success of business owners. Rather than get into a long list of reasons why, which include SEO, PR, and branding, I just want to cut to the chase.

Blog because the future of your business depends on it.

That should be more than enough of a reason. Do you have a business? Well you should be on something blogging and using social media. It could be Wordpress, Twitter, Blogger or Medium but be on something creating content and speaking with your audience to set yourself apart.

Don’t just blog to blog. Blog for a purpose. Communicate with existing clients. Communicate with potential clients. Discuss industry trends. Embed a video. Add audio. Add pictures from new products you’re selling. Tell a story. Tell your story. Just blog. Look at it as a way to communicate.

Business owners are busy enough as it is but now they have to allocate time for one more additional thing. It can be tough to balance everything, but it’s necessary.

I would never say that you will lose your business if you don’t blog, but it’s likely you will lose something. Competitors who are leaner and running their business out of their parents garages are blogging and active on social media and they are coming for your market share. Maybe not today, but soon.

So don’t be afraid of all this new technology. It’s an incredible opportunity. Experiment with it. “Kill it.”
