Why we chose Polygon (MATIC) to launch iBetYou ?
I Bet You has started as a concrete idea over a year ago, in the peak of the DeFi summer. It went through many transformations and a few near deaths. One of the crucial defining moments was when we almost gave up on the project. It was still very early, we had our first prototype on ETH Mainnet, and the gas cost started raging. We realized nobody will be using it if making a simple bet will cost them 50$. “”It was a stupid idea anyway “ — that’s what we were telling ourselves, too many problems, not the right time. We wanted to build a simple, easy and fun app, but that was nearly impossible in the current situation.
But then something wonderful happened. As we were doing some research on possible solutions for our “”little”” problem, we stumbled upon Polygon (then it was still under the vintage name MATIC). The first thought was — this just might work. We applied for MATIC Developer support program. They got in touch quickly, we explained what we wanted to build and to our surprise… they LOVED it. They understood where we wanted to go and started driving us forward. We got a small grant, but more importantly, we got much-needed approval that we are going in the right direction.
This is not where the story ends. The whole team talking to us was so supportive and open that we were flabbergasted. This is rare even for crypto, and we can’t thank them enough. This worked like a boost for the whole team. Everyone started picking up pace instantly.
It gets better. We were brainstorming about introducing a gasles experience sometime in the future… BAM… they introduced us to Biconomy. We were thinking about how to effectively generate yield on locked bets… BAM again … they showed us maTokens, quickwap, aavegotchi and got us in contact with people who directed our thinking. The rest is history. We knew exactly what to do and where to drive this.
I Bet you is in production today because of Polygon, and we can’t thank them enough. We are always repeating this, sometimes a small kindness means a lot when you are small and trying to find your way. From the outside, it doesn’t look much but trust us, it was.
