I made a video on Instagram on this topic but I feel I should share this here.

Some of us wake up in the morning and we observe whitish discharges on our eyelashes. I have heard some people use urine or hot water to remove it and all I can say is God help us.

Before we talk about cleaning, let’s understand why we have it in the first place.

Discharges are usually signs of infection. Imagine if you have a wound and that wound got infected, you will notice pus in it?

Now in the case of the eye, you probably transferred germs into your eye unknowingly via your fingers.

Whenever you notice discharges, just think about infection.

Now to treat it, you need to clean it first and that’s by using a clean washcloth, soaked in room temperature water, and gently wiping away the discharge.

After you have cleaned it, then get to the Eye Clinic. The appropriate antibiotics ointment will be prescribed.

I used the word ‘appropriate’ because not all infections are caused by the same germs. It can be bacterial, viral, fungal, etc. So just going to the chemist to get anyhow ointment will NOT work.

And after that, for subsequent cleaning during the day, make use of pocket tissue so that you can wipe and throw it away.

The wet washcloth is because most morning discharges will be thick and dry so the wet cloth will help break it apart.

So my friends, don’t use urine, hot water, or methylated spirit
