Share the love: Medium Publications
Medium publications are a writer’s life blood. Whether it is one for only your own pieces or the ones that first published one of your pieces, the publications make sure that your work is seen. (Hopefully by more people than otherwise.)
I’ve published in many different publications. Some I have contributed to once or twice, some have my heart forever. When I was a new Medium writer, reading publications gave me hope that my writing was worth being seen. The editors of the first few publications I contributed to changed my life. Many of those editors went on to become personal friends.
For example, Tre L. Loadholt. One of the earliest editors to tell me she liked my work, she was willing to publish pieces that I wasn’t sure I was ready to have go public. She ran prompts that made me think and made me work. The publication that I originally contributed to is no longer in existence, but my friendship with her lasts to this day.
Another publication I found early on was The Weekly Knob. Stories based on prompts — what’s not to love. Before I moved to poetry and essays as my main writing loves, I wrote several short stories that were published there. I still read pieces there when I remember — and I still love everything they stand for.
There are many others — in fact, so many that I will be writing for this prompt. But what I really want to see over the next week is where you like to publish and where you like to read. Which editors know just the advice to give to make your pieces shine. Which publications do you love submitting to? Which ones always give you a bump in reading? Whose prompts get your hearts racing?
One note: The only publication I don’t want to hear about this week is this one. Share the love. Let us know the other publications you love. Tell us who runs them. Tell us why you love them.
