I know this list looks long. It is built from my experience here on Medium. If you have questions about any of the below information, be sure to comment or PM the editors.

  • New challenges will be published on Medium every Tuesday and Thursday
  • Each challenge will contain its own guidelines and tags
  • If your piece doesn’t contain the tag for the challenge, it won’t show on the tab (The editors may fix incorrect tags but only when they have time.)
  • Pieces must indicate which challenge entry the piece is attached to. Any submission that doesn’t indicate which challenge it is attached to will be rejected.
  • Challenges will be announced here on the publication. I will do my best to send out weekly letters to readers and writers with the new challenges for the week.
  • The week’s challenges will be published in advance to my patrons. Usually, the Sunday evening before they are published here on Medium. (The intent here is to give you more time to write up pieces.)
  • This publication is a safe space. No racism, no violence, no hate speech, etc. Writing about your own pain is fine. Causing pain to another writer here on Medium is not fine.
  • There will be multiple challenges available at any given time. Some will have time limits, some will not.
  • Submissions may be locked or unlocked. If a submission is locked, please consider adding a response with the friend’s link
  • If you are submitting to a challenge, we encourage you to share or link to the challenge announcement
  • Entries can be essays, fiction, non-fiction, or poetry unless the challenge guidelines say otherwise.
  • All challenge entries must have an image. The image must be at least 900 pixels on at least one side. All images must be attributed correctly and be legal to use here on Medium.
  • Have fun with your entries. Write work you are proud of.
