Prologue

This is a fictional first-person account set in the future. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“Why are you doing this? WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU DO THIS?” He tightens his muscles, fists clenched. His nails are digging into his skin and his fingers are slowly turning white.

“Those opinions are my own and my own only.” My heart is pounding, and my poker face is about to lose out.

“Who are you? Are you out to ruin me? THAT SH*T WENT VIRAL.” A vein on the side of his head has started pulsing.

“No, I’m simply exposing the unfortunate truth.”

He turns towards me, face flushed red with anger. “You just want to get me bankrupt don’t you? You just want me to give this up don’t you? After all the time and hard work that I put into it? AFTER BUILDING UP MY REPUTATION AND LIFE FROM IT. WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT? I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST YOU.”

“I’m not out to get you. I’m just telling the truth.”

He’s now yelling inconceivable slurs and smashing things off of his desk. He stops just short of knocking his prized augmented reality headset, his EyeChange. I swerve on my heels and attempt to leave, as Will has texted that he is right down the stairs waiting with his car. He catches my shirt collar just in time and swings. The last thing I remember is Will pounding up the stairs and then the world went black.
