Tomorrow, tens of thousands of people will take the the streets of San Francisco, Denver, Houston and cities around the world to demand a just transition to 100% renewable energy for all. The #FreedomToBreathe tour bus and organizers will be rallying in Denver. The 5,000 mile cross-country bus tour that began in Atlanta on August 25th will conclude at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco next week. Through a series of town halls and community visits across nine states, the tour is highlighting local leaders and communities organizing for social and climate justice. Doug Parsons, host of America Adapts — The Climate Change Podcast, was on the bus last week. He attended the New Orleans town hall that focused on challenges for women and transgender people during extreme weather events like Hurricane Katrina; visited Africatown, a community that has been polluted by industry and plagued by high cancer rates; and toured L’eau Est La Vie, a water protector camp protesting the Bayou Bridge pipeline in Louisiana.

Doug talks with Arielle Gold, Olympic medalist in snowboarding about her work with Protect our Winters, an advocacy group working to mobilize the outdoor sports community on climate change. Arielle also talks about her experiences as a snowboarder in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in Russia and her medal winning turn at the Pyeongyang Winter Games in Korea. Arielle discusses the snow conditions at the Sochi games and how climate change influenced those discussions. Doug and Arielle also discuss the role of professional athletes in creating greater awareness around climate change.
