Wrapping Up Week 1
In 2012, we launched the I ❤ Climate Scientists Facebook Page to create a community supporting climate scientists and their work during a hostile time.
Five years later, the love and support for climate science hasn’t changed. However, our political situation has. The current administration is filled with climate deniers, and science and scientists are under serious threat (again).
And this is why we chose to launch a new I ❤ Climate Scientists campaign. To refuel our followers’ love for climate science and scientists. To engage our community to #ActOnClimate in a meaningful way. To show climate scientists that they are loved and that they are appreciated.
For the first week of the campaign, we asked everyone to tell us why they love climate scientists.

Here are some of the answers we’ve received that truly capture the spirit of the campaign.

Super heroes don’t just come in leotards and capes. They also come wearing lab coats and holding test tubes.
Thanks to climate scientists and all of the research they provide, we now know exactly which extreme weather phenomenon occurs where. This means we can literally save lives from extreme droughts, rising sea levels and increasing wildfires caused by climate change.

It can be hard to stay optimistic and hopeful when the future looks so grim. Scientists understand that rising temperatures mean more forced migration, increased civil conflicts, rise of extreme weather events and proliferation of many different public health impacts.
But still, scientists go to work everyday and face these difficult truths to help us combat climate change and fight for a safe and healthy future.

Thanks to scientists, we know that in a changing climate, small children are at a higher risk for heat-related illnesses. Higher temperatures also contribute to the buildup of harmful air pollutants, which can cause more respiratory problems in children. Through their work, we can learn how climate change threatens our kids and how we can protect them.

At the end of the day, it is all about being good stewards to our children, to each other, and to our environment. Climate scientists set great examples for us to follow.
Climate scientists need our support at this crucial time. Please go check out our Facebook page for the action item for Week 2!
