Police guard ice cream aisles more than MAGA
For people who keep cocoa butter nearby, this is the America we know

In Texas, there was a black girl filmed licking a tub of Blue Bell ice cream. The video of the juvenile went viral, viewed more than 11 million times, showing her licking the dessert in Walmart and laughing about it. Authorities sifted through four Instagram accounts to figure out who she was, track her down and even investigated her boyfriend, who was of adult age.
If she wasn’t a teenager, she would’ve faced a two to 20-year prison term or a $10K fine, according to Texas state penal code. In turn, police officers came out to guard the freezers and let people know licking ice cream would not be tolerated here.
The visual of that image has been on my mind today after watching Trump (Make America Great Again, MAGA) supporters show the kind of juvenile behavior that makes the horrendously disgusting behavior from this girl seem presidential.

Then there’s Ieshia Evans, who was menacingly approached by two armed officers for simply being a demonstrator after the shooting death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge on July 9, 2016.
Then there’s the photo of the officer aiming a weapon at a small child positioned on a man’s shoulders. All of them are unarmed.

Now consider those images versus white men freely bum-rushing the Capitol Building today, breaching the building entrance, illegally entering and waving flags in the hallways, snapping selfies with MAGA capes on, fighting to get past the gates, inexplicably carrying around and stealing podiums, jumping off furniture to break in, climbing the walls, stealing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s mail and posing at Pelosi’s desk, and zip ties to refrain people.
On WBEZ, journalists told stories of hunkering down in Capitol Building rooms, too scared to answer loud knocking — when it was actually the police. Those inside were told to shelter in place, and congressional leaders were taken offsite. Members of Congress were told that tear gas was being used in the Capitol rotunda. If they weren’t wearing masks already, they were told to put one on — because that was the only way they could get these thugs (my words, not theirs) to leave. Assault rifles weren’t their first choice. “Fearing for their lives” while aiming first and thinking later was completely off the table. Arrests? Who’s gonna do that?

Fully grown men (possibly men raising children, too) were protesting an election that had already been decided. The Supreme Court didn’t back down. The votes were recounted in some states numerous times. More than 60 election fraud cases were dismissed. Still MAGA came. Unmasked. Posing for pics. Indignant. Following a president who is still rambling on about his lack of math skills in an election he lost both by electoral and popular vote.

Even Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky isn’t on Trump’s side or MAGAs anymore. Do you know how horrendously racist you have to be for McConnell to pull a Mariah Carey “I don’t know him”? While I’m watching this clown show, I keep thinking of the girl who licked the ice cream tub and the woman standing outside in a flowing dress peacefully protesting, who were treated tougher than this entire group of grown men (and women) breaking into a governmental building and vandalizing property inside.

Stop telling me this isn’t the America you know. This is exactly the America I know. When those of you in denial start admitting that the group who showed their entire ass in the Capitol Building today weren’t birthed on January 20, 2017 and were the mindset of the 57 percent of white Trump voters in 2016 and 58 percent in 2020, then the rest of the world will be that much closer to actual progress. No one who has cocoa butter nor shea butter within arm’s reach is surprised by today or the drastically different treatment with MAGA protesters versus the rest of the world. Only you are. You must get out of denial about it. Eat a scoop of ice cream. Then consider breaking out of the vanilla bubble you live in.
