We’re very excited to have a new opening for a Junior Advisor on our team. Read below to find out more about the role, what we’re looking for, and how to apply!

I.G. Advisors (I.G.) is an award-winning strategy consultancy specialising in social and environmental change. Our mission is to build the capacity of non-profits, businesses and philanthropists to achieve impact and growth — from grassroots organisations working tirelessly in their communities through to those seeking large-scale, systemic change. Our collective intelligence, unparalleled cross-sector network and hands-on team expertise makes us the advisor, partner and employer of choice, allowing our clients to better achieve their goals.

We do this at three levels: through our Strategies, developed through human-centred, and participatory approaches; our Activation work, where we provide direct, practical support to ensure our strategies are successful and responsive; and finally our Sector Transformation work, where we use our cross-sectoral knowledge and experience to deliver new ideas, projects and thought leadership to #FixTheFlow of resources for good. We’re based in London, have a global team, and clients on every continent.

We are a mission-driven firm, a certified B Corp and our values underpin everything we do:

· We are Dynamic: We move fast with care and bring energy and enthusiasm to all we do.

· We have Integrity: We have a fundamental responsibility to be honest, ethical and true to our values.

· We are Performance Driven: We aim to deliver the best work for our clients, partners and each other.

· We are Challenging: We won’t settle for the status quo. We constantly push our clients, and ourselves, to do better.

Who You Are

The role of Junior Advisor is dynamic, exciting, varied, intense and constantly evolving. Our goal at I.G. Advisors is to go above and beyond expectations, delivering innovative, completely unique, ambitious, tailored solutions to our clients. No two days at I.G. are ever the same; everyone on our team wears many hats (sometimes at the same time) and with great ambition comes the need for great people. We need multi-talented multitaskers who thrive on working on a diverse and varied slate of work. A Junior Advisor is expected to be:

  • Brilliant: Keen to learn and gain experience in the philanthropic sector, with ideally 1–3 years of related work experience within the social good space; that could be as a fundraiser, social entrepreneur, philanthropy advisor or CSR professional. However, we value brilliance and a willingness to work hard and learn fast over relevant job experience.
  • A strategic problem solver: Solving problems is at the heart of what we do. Our team are good at diagnosing issues and figuring out how to solve them; it’s a mix of bringing creative, big picture strategic vision, alongside practical solutions.
  • Intellectually curious: You should have a solid understanding of trends and priorities in fundraising, philanthropy, social investment and corporate impact, and maintain an ability to keep up to date on these.
  • A stellar communicator with first class relationship management skills: a people person who is “on brand” 100% of the time, with clear and persuasive verbal and written communications. This includes native level fluency in English, and additional languages are always a plus;
  • A perfectionist: Incredibly efficient and organised, known for your unparalleled attention to detail, and able to demonstrate responsiveness, reliability and dependability. A love of structure and deadlines, and knowledge of how to prioritise to meet them.
  • An independent team player: Someone who thrives working with a small team in a flexible and fast-paced environment, as well as being an independent self-starter who can manage workload and assignments independently.
  • An early adopter of technology who is savvy across many platforms and tools: Able to build relationships with a team and clients remotely and pick up new technology quickly; our regularly used tools include Xero, Salesforce, Asana, Zoom, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, social media, and Slack;
  • Discreet and able to handle confidentiality: Able to work sensitively with high profile individuals or private philanthropic entities.
  • A coffee drinking dog lover: We are a dog friendly workplace and generally highly caffeinated (Tea drinkers welcome, too).
  • Fresh, dynamic and slightly irreverent: Just like our podcast.

The Role

Junior Advisors work across our charity, corporate and philanthropy clients (often at the same time); this role requires adaptability and flexibility. Most often, junior advisors support a project manager to deliver high quality work to the client, however there are times where junior advisors will be responsible for project management and client management themselves.

Client Work

  • Support, build and (sometimes) manage relationships with clients (including individuals, charities, social enterprises, companies and foundations) in a highly professional manner.
  • Execute high-quality client work, which varies but includes a strong focus on secondary research, data, analysis, interviewing, and strategy drafting — always keeping the client’s needs and context in mind, along with I.G. house style in writing and document design, when developing deliverables.
  • Work can also often include meeting facilitation, minute-taking, workshop delivery and delivering presentations; strength in all of these areas is required.
  • Anticipate the needs of clients, and proactively come up with efficient, effective solutions for both clients and project managers.
  • Provide a final line of defence for client deliverables, with high-calibre copy editing of others’ work, and proof-reading of important documents.

I.G. Work

  • Contribute to I.G. Advisors’ products, services, thought leadership and profile by supporting the team to innovate, and researching and writing thought leadership pieces, blogs and articles.
  • Reflect on trends and client feedback to refine and enhance our processes and services.
  • Keep open communications with team members, and proactively highlight challenges before they become a problem.
  • Support and contribute to other projects and tasks, as required.

Business Development

  • Build a network by regularly representing I.G. at events, conferences, meetings and pitches (some evenings are required).
  • Support successful outcomes with major business development opportunities by supporting the senior team to prepare and deliver pitches, concepts and engaging meetings or workshops with potential clients.
  • Know, and confidently deliver, the I.G. ‘pitch’, and understand the services and products on offer.
  • Cultivate and close new client relationships, bringing in support from senior team members, when needed.
  • Prepare business development proposals to a high standard, including for colleagues and the business as a whole, meeting a specific brief and costing out specific workplans where needed.
  • Promptly input clear data into the CRM when engaging with business development leads.

Supervision

  • When relevant, provide supervision and support to Interns.

Personal Performance

  • Prioritise tasks appropriately and manage competing demands — proactively asking for support, when needed, to avoid bottlenecks and challenges.
  • Manage time effectively and complete tasks on time, with a focus on quality.
  • Know when to ask for input or support from senior team members.
  • Consistently produce high quality work that meets client briefs in terms of content, style and attention to detail.
  • Respond well to feedback, refining work and not repeating mistakes.
  • Seek new challenges and opportunities to develop expertise and knowledge, including in the sectors and countries relevant to I.G.’s work.
  • Actively contribute information and ideas during team or client meetings or calls.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyse situations and understand other perspectives.

Role Specifics

  • Salary: £25,000-£30,000
  • Hours: Full Time, Monday — Friday
  • Location: London, SE1
  • Benefits: Pension, health insurance, 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays, your birthday, and Christmas shutdown), flexible working policy.
  • Reporting to: Advisor
