I go zero

This post was written over summer.
So I’m doing this little project. It’s called Hello Sunday Morning, & it includes not drinking for a month or so. Alcohol, that is. For 3 months, to be precise. In other words: how to thrive & shine, free from alcohol intoxication?
I’m doing fine. Since a month or 2, I haven’t drunk a sip. It is actually far more easy than I thought it would be. Also, it gave me the strength to quit some other bad habits (late night sugar, online shopping, Netflix). It is incredible - we are far more strong than we think we are, if we just try. Actually, we can do it all.
Apart from the fact that I’m feeling more healthy, my sleep got so much better. Once I go to bed, I sleep as a baby throughout the night. I no longer wake up in the middle of the night (not even to pee) + I always wake up in time, be it 7 or 8am sharp. It’s amazing. No more snoozing or running late, I’m most of the time up and running before sunrise. And that, my friend, feels pretty good. I got lots of energy, too - more time to work, write, read and practice yoga. I finally made a list of things to do, and I’m actually getting things done. I move forward. As if I see clearer now, with a layer of dust removed from my sight.
Of course, it felt weird at first. I no longer drunk with friends, and I felt less comfortable in the casual going out scene. “Apple juice for me”, some people started asking questions. “Are you pregnant?”, was one of them. “What’s wrong with you?”, another. As if I was an alien or so, simply because I did not drink.
It is funny - the ones that were the most disappointed by my project, were boys. As if me not drinking, made them feel less comfortable. Or did it make me less fun? I’m not sure. Truth is, it truly felt good to be in control, all of the time. If I say “no”, it means no - no excuses, no exceptions. So it was also an exercise in defining my boundaries, my mind set and spirit.
I now take it easy - I no longer try to explain, argue or convince others of what I’m doing. I just do it - the Nike way. And I invite all you girls to join me - ban the booze, get light, bright and clean, detoxify your body and conquer the world!
