A time and a place for a smiling pile of poop.

While there’s no evidence to indicate ancient Egyptians carved happy piles of poop into rock walls, the idea behind heiroglyphics is just the same as 21st century emoji: Use simple symbols to convey thoughts and emotions that can be complex and contradictory. (i.e. A pile of poop that’s smiling.)

In a connected world where quick responses are the norm, it’s not surprising to see emoji as widely used as it is. But even though it is commonplace, there are still instances when the use of emoji will likely be met by a real-life frown. See below for more.
