The day Joe Perez got a call from Kanye West he thought it was a joke
When he got a phone call from Kanye West, Joe Perez thought it was a joke. It was not. From 2008 to 2010 he curated Kanye West’s blogs and then
he was the art director at Kanye West’s design studio DONDA up to 2016.
He designed many album covers for many hip hop artists like Nicki Minaj, Pusha-T, A$AP ROCKY, Puff Daddy, Ludacris and others.
His style is not minimalist nor baroque (could it ever be like that?) but it’s something in between. It’s a kind of “dry baroque”: no colors, few decorations. It’s baroque minimalism, let’s go with this.
He curated many promos and merchandising for Yeezy, Kanye West’s collaboration with adidas.
During his few days off he uses to go to bookstores to browse and buy old fashion and art magazines to get inspirations.
