Glued to the screen

Talking about addictions, The Gist with Mike Pesca is something like an addiction for me. I don’t mean that I’m addicted to it (even if it’s a very good podcast): I mean that listening to him is like doing speed. And it’s legal!

Pesca’s got this peculiar in your face new yorker attitude that you just love or hate. He’s that kind of outspoken, clever, fast-talker speaker that might be sometimes irritating, often interesting, always funny.

This time he speaks with Adam Alter about his book on «Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked».

It’s a book about many of us: always glued to the screen — iphone, TV or computer — always checking emails, Twitter, Facebook and then playing some videogames.

Even if its main focus is how the videogame industry builds its products on the promise of being addictive for us, it says that we all have some kind of addiction to this little black box that we always keep in our pockets.

And we should be treated as junkies.
