Are you sure to know who you are? Is it the real you or just the projection of the image that you cast on the outside world? This story starts with the plague of locusts. It’s a biblical thing that until very recently nobody could explain: where do locusts come from? Why they come, destroy everything and then leave? Nobody knew the answer. Locusts really looked like a devilish curse. It turns out that locusts are actually a very peaceful insect: the grasshopper. At least they are like that, up until something happens: “When grasshoppers touch one another’s hind legs, the contact sets off hormonal changes: the adults’ neutral brown coloring is replaced with a fearsome bright yellow, and they become “gregarious” group insects, coordinating their growth, behavior and egg laying”.

A quiet creature becomes a destroyer, like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Almost everyone has experienced a set of unexpected reactions to something: he or she happened to behave how they we’re not supposed to. So the question is: who is the true one? The “normal” one or that other kind of person which shows up rarely? And, could it be that these are just isolated expressions of an inner self that don’t matter much in the end? But they do live inside our souls, isn’t it?

The amazing Invisibilia podcast tries to answer from a scientific point of view and telling two real stories of people who are dealing with a different kind of themselves that they didn’t expect to exist.
