Hi, readers! The latest I Love Romance Blog review selection is A Delightful New Year by Rich Rubin.

Take it away, Robin!

Thanks!

A Delightful New Year by Rich Rubin

I received this book for free. This does not impact my review in any shape or form.

A Delightful New Year, by Rich Rubin, is an erotic romance about falling in love and lusting after people you care about. Chris and Brenda, the couple in question, have decided to open their relationship to Donna, Brenda’s sister. The three decide to engage in passionate f**king, all the while flirting with the potential of incestuous lesbian romances between two sisters.

I am not going to lie. This was a very cringey book. The sex scenes were awkward, the relationships were weird, and Kevin reminded me of Raj from the Big Bang Theory before his character development. Moreover, while I am very much into dark romances, I’m not very sold on the idea of incest (with Wincest and Cersei and her twin brother from Game of Thrones being very rare exceptions). There’s not a lot of character building or world building in this book. There’s not a lot of themes to latch onto, either.

As such, I would give this book a 1 out of 5 stars.

Many thanks, Robin!

Book Info:

The events of what transpired over Thanksgiving still haunt Chris. Did it really happen? What if it happens again? Can Chris embrace the past like Brenda did and have a delightful new year?

Here’s a teaser from the book…

Chris hasn’t been able to shake the memory of what happened over
Thanksgiving weekend. It has been permanently burned into his brain for the
last month. No matter what he’s doing or who he’s with, his mind always
travels back to that weekend. Like now.

He and Brenda are flying back from spending Christmas in Boston with
his parents, his brother and sister-in-law. He couldn’t help but feel fortunate that
Brenda and his brother didn’t sleep together. This thought makes him feel like a
hypocrite because he just did the same thing with his sister-in-law four weeks
ago. The worst part was feeling guilty he had cheated on his wife. But, it was
encouraged by her and anytime the topic came up since then Brenda has been ok
with it. It’s not like he went into their Thanksgiving visit looking to sleep with
Donna. He came back from brushing his teeth and both girls are naked, with his
wife saying he’s going to sleep with Donna.

He’s trying to be okay with it, too, and did enjoy it. But is worried this will
ultimately lead him down the path towards a divorce. He doesn’t want to be that
guy who gets divorced before he turns 24. That just sends the wrong message.

Guest Blogger/Reviewer Bio:

My pen name is Robin Goodfellow. I fell in love with reading after I picked up Fallen by Lauren Kate. I am currently a licensed substance abuse counselor and LPC-A (although I hope to be an LPC soon). I was also a former math and special education teacher. Although I tried going to medical school, it didn’t work out. On the bright side, I’ve got more time for reading and writing! Mental health is a personal passion of mine, as is crochet, and annoying my husband.

This book looks interesting! ♥ We’ll check it out…
