Enough With the BS

I’ve got a bone to pick with so called running (and “healthly”) bloggers, and this can apply everyone everywhere. Over the past few months I have noticed a rapid decline in content, honesty and integrity of most running/healthy living with a touch of running blogs. Some of my favorite ‘go to’ running blogs for motivation, tips and support have turned into giant advertisements, sponsored posts and fake over enthusiastic semi related product reviews. What the hell is going on? It feels like I’ve stepped into the twilight zone of the stepford fitness running blog wives. Many quality blogs seem to have lost what made them special, lost the essence of truth, the honest motivation, the humanity, everything that made them enjoyable to read is now gone.

Over the past 2 months I have seen the following:

- A fitness blog where 98% of posts are about running, crossfit and how eating vegetarian (which they have been for 4 years) is the way to go reviewing microwave ready frozen meat and potato meals stating they are ‘tasty’ - liar liar pants on fire!

- A running blog reviewing Yoga DVD’s (and saying they are amazing and the ‘love love loved it’) even though post made before and after the review clearly state how this blogger ‘hates’ yoga - so what is it, do you love yoga or hate it?

- An individual in recovery (from an eating disorder) getting paid to host bets where they encourage people to lose (usually unhealthy amounts of) weight over a month or two - this is just sad and tragic

-Getting paid to say a specific protein power is ‘great’ ‘amazing’ and ‘well worth every penny’ even though this blogger has said many time that they are allergic to ingredients in it - did you even try it?

and my favorite

- Running blogs (I’m talking 5+) reviewing shoe after shoe after shoe after shoe after shoe … all from different brands all claiming every shoe is ‘awesome’ ‘the best’ and ‘ my new go to sneaker’ - oh really? if all 7 sneakers are ‘the best’ why are you wearing brand 8 (who didnt give you free shoes) in all of your photos?

I standing up and calling BS! BS to the fake and BS to the lies. I say bring back the honesty, be real in your post and in your reviews, speak the truth, refocus, simplify, and most importantly don’t follow along with, play into or encourage the fraudulent behaviors.

What we like about you is you! and this applies to everyone everywhere across all platforms and posting topics. We read your blogs, follow your tweets, stalk your facebook page and heart your instagram photos because of the real-ness, because of the grit, because of the ups and downs, because everyday you could be my neighbor, my coworker, my sibling, the guy I see every morning on my commute, my barista or my best friend.

I’m not sure how this happened, or how it became ok to be fake, really really fake, but it needs to end. We don’t like the BS, we don’t enjoy the entitled pretentious attitude, we are so over the fake contradicting reviews, and we miss you! Please bring YOU back! You preach #gratitude #proof #grateful #eatclean hashtag this and hashtag that … so I say #BeReal and really It is time to kick the BS to the curb #justsaying
