Productivity ground to a halt today at local startup Blorp.TV when it was noticed that a bulb in one of the lobby’s track lights had burned out and should be replaced.

The faulty light, which is one of four illuminating a glossy plastic sign bearing the company’s name, was first noticed around lunchtime by Ted Waxman, a Senior Vice President of Marketing. Upon bringing the news to his supervisor, the two of them began a process that soon involved the entire Marketing, Engineering, Sales and Human Resources departments.

“At first it was just Ted and I and we were just gonna go fix it real quick,” explained Jim Gordon, the company’s President of Marketing. “But neither of us knew where the bulbs were kept, so we had to ask a guy in HR if he knew. He did, but then none of us were sure how to get the lamp down, or where to find something sturdy enough to stand on. So we just started walking around asking people and pretty soon the lobby was standing room only.”

The light was reportedly back up and running by around 3:30pm, though one source in the Engineering team commented it “seemed brighter than the others.” Company estimates pin the cost of the bulb change at around $41,000 in salary and lost sales.
