Movie Scene that is illogical: Matrix Reloaded

Yea, I’m gonna be that guy

I recently made my wife watch Matrix and Matrix Reloaded (Revolutions coming soon). I often find parts in movies that are wrong. I don’t mean “scene cutting” wrong — like holding something in the left hand in one shot and then the right hand in the next cut. But you can go into that YouTube hole if you want.

I’m more interested in the mistakes of logic that exist in a film. Like how impossible it would be for Superman to lift an entire island made of Kyptonite!

In Matrix Revolution we learn of how Neo can meet the source. The character “the Keymaker” explains

Keymaker: “There is a building. Inside this building, there is a level where no elevator can go and no stair can reach. This level is filled with doors. These doors lead to many places—hidden places; but one door is special—one door leads to the source. This building is protected by very secure system. Every alarm triggers the bomb.” — — The Matrix Reloaded

The steps to get into the building safely are as follows: One crew has to destroy the nuclear plant to disable 27 blocks including the building where if any door is opened, the bomb goes off.

Another crew has to disable the backup system.

Doing both of these creates 314 seconds where the alarm won’t go off.

We know the bomb actually does work because after Neo meets with “the source” and decides to save Trinity — the building explodes (his meeting was longer than 314 seconds).

But what I am concerned about is BEFORE he gets to the source. Morpheus, Neo, and the Keymaker get into the floor and are on their way to the door for Neo to get to the source. Meanwhile, however, the crew in charge of disabling the backup system is killed. Indeed — we see power going up all across the 27 blocks that went dark after the first crew succesfully destroyed the nucelar power plant.

This should mean that any door opened would trigger the bomb.

This is why Trinity decides to go against Neo’s wishes and enter the Matrix (to take out the backup system).

But before she goes in….. and while the power is up: Agent Smith shows up in the floor where Morpheus, Neo and the Keymaker are.

I don’t care how he got there. But we clearly see him open a door. In fact, many Agent Smiths come to the floor. All of them, seemingly, by opening the doors in the hallway. All of these should have triggered the bomb.

Several minutes later when Trinity does disable the backup — the Keymaker opens a door and we see the operator “Link” tell Trinity “they made it” ie: the bomb didn’t go off. The audience is supposed to feel relief when the Keymaker opens the door just after Trinity disabled the backup.

But in truth — the whole building should have been blown up several times over.

Can somebody, anybody — please explain?!?!?!?
