RUSSELL BRAND: GENTLEMAN WITH THE MESSIAH COMPLEX
Russell Brand‘s high profile interview with Jeremy Paxman is yet another example of the incisive intellect and gentleness that lies within this extraordinary man.

Yes, that’s Russell Brand: from the beginnings of his daring performances to now, Russell has shown us innovative and roll-around-the-aisles-with-laughter-comedy, while being a gentleman in the true sense of the word. The interviews with Westboro Baptist Church and Jeremy Paxman illustrate this clearly.
Time and time again he willingly and deliberately walks into traps, which have been set for him, and emerges with his dignity and integrity intact. Russell seems to have a higher principle and an enviable philosophy steering him with honour through the infested waters of fame. Given what he has been through in his life, this is remarkable.
Check him out in action in these two interviews. He’s funny, hilarious in fact. But unkind? No.
Steve and Timothy from Westboro Baptist Church set out with messages of hate when they were interviewed by Russell. When Russell summed up the W B Church point of view, as “its simply God condemning what is objectively and indefatigably wrong,” the W B church conceded “very well put, other than the accent”.
Steve and Timothy’s affirmation of Russell was shortlived. The subject of the bible came up: Russell suggested that “the bible like all religious doctrine may be allegorical and symbolic to direct us towards one holy entity of love … the bible wasn’t literally written by a cosmic entity”. The WB Church was quick to throw out to Russell that “you don’t have any stake and power of your own, Russell, get over yourself”.
To which he replied? “I agree with that …” Russell has a habit of not rising to the bait and acting courteously when he is insulted. When Jeremy said, “You are a very trivial man” (4.20 minutes) Russell just let it slide.
Never underestimate Russell Brand.
We can rely on Russell to stand up tall and true. His humour is a vehicle for important messages such as “tolerance … love … beauty and acceptance”.
Russell is not trivial and to call him so (which Jeremy did) is frankly silly. Russell is weighty, significant and has a searing intelligence. He is important and we need him.
He is also the funniest man I have ever watched, so catch him on his monstrous Messiah Complex tour. A gentleman in action. — Not only will he make you laugh, but he’ll treat you well, too.
