Putting others ahead of yourself for a change

Memorial Day has obviously influenced this piece and I make no apologies for it. I think we all need to remember and honor all those who sacrificed their life for our freedom that we take for granted.

Personally, I’m against war so all this is rather ironic coming from me. I don’t think we should have gotten involved in any of the wars or conflicts in Iran, Iraq, or even Vietnam. Still, I respect and honor all those that served for our country nonetheless.

As for what we can all do today in non-war roles, I suggest we focus on Sacrifice as a Service, a different kind of SaaS model, if you will. Instead of fixating on valuations, early exits or acquisitions, I wish more entrepreneurs would put the interests of others above everything else. What a concept, huh?

This notion shouldn’t be that radical when you stop and think about it for a moment. What I’m suggesting is simply putting your customers or users at the top of your list of priorities. At the end of the day, that’s what we should be doing anyway. Find a pain point and provide a way to ease the pain. Target a problem and provide a solution.

We should do this in our personal lives as well. It shouldn’t just be a mission statement for business but a personal mantra too. If more of us did even just a little bit more for others then the world would be in a better place.
