Share, Collaborate and $%&
There seem to be a lot of web companies trying to solve the ‘problem’ of working with other people…
I think, I have seen and tried all of them, mainly out of professional interest in interface design. And I can’t count the times an app or service has ‘solved’ the ‘all information in one place’ holy grail.
It is pretty sneaky to propose to a whole world of desperate computer workers that their life will be easier and they will have time to play with their kids and so forth… Everybody will be willing to at least try these services, that help you get things done, collaborate and share.
Also, a whole army of consultants, bloggers and (so-called) speakers makes a (decent?) living explaining why you should fancy one service over the other.
Truth be told:
I don’t want to collaborate, share on the go at all (‘at my fingertips’).
I want to invest in systems that I know will be around in the future. (Well, that leaves HTML and TXT, depending on the timeframe)
I want those systems to be paid here and now, no subscriptions (like old world software).
(Therefore,) I don’t like stickers pointing me to the ‘most popular plan’.
It is unrealistic to have all communication in one place.
This post is a reminder to myself: don’t keep looking for a service like this. If there is a service like that, it will find me.
