The Pavement once sang:

Architecture students are like virgins /
with an itch they cannot scratch /
Never build a building till you’re 50 /
what kind of life is that?

On that thought - here’s another thought:

So what will the architecture of the future look like? Well, technological advances will inevitably affect the way architecture looks, but technological progress does not have a direct relationship with societal progress, and it’s societal change which most deeply impacts architectural form. There will be an eventual shift away from relentless steel and glass (basically Victorian technology) towards new materials. But the way things are made will be the biggest technological change. The first 3D printed house is being designed by the Dutch Universe Architects; they say it will be ready in 18 months. This will be the first of many, meaning a shorter distance between ideas and eventual physical building. Which in some ways will be good, but it will lead to a tendency to emphasise shape, rather than object or function. Better technology does not equal better architecture.

Let’s talk about the future of architectural design -

At fusedcow, we aspire to be the future of architectural design, not merely by creating technological advancement wrt design representation, but also what are the ways to capture the emotions, sentiments and culture of the society and the human beings.

When we talk about futuristic buildings, we think of parametric designs created by the likes of Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry and we just stop there.

[If you ask me after 6 single-malts, I’m not a fan of that building that Russian billionaire made for Naomi - but the point I’m trying to make here is: today’s so-called ‘futuristic buildings’ are not futuristic at all. ]

So - what is the future of architecture? I think the future of architecture is connected -connecting the social fabric, the sensibilities of the humans living here and an ability to understand (and predict) how these civilizations are going to evolve.

The duty of architecture is to help the social evolution to catchup with the speed socio-economic evolution of a city, a country or this planet as whole.

As a tiny young technology startup, how can we assist those who care to catalyze the empathetic design evolution? How can we solve large problems in space planning. How can we help people express themselves by creating a space which represents them?

While answering all the above questions, we aspire to help the current citizens of this planet slowly move towards the future of design - which is driven by the inner self of the civilization.

When we think about future, we need ideas to think about the future. When we write about the future, we need to have a philosophy to write about the future - When we dream about the future, we need to have the ability to visualize the future. Let’s start from there, then?
