I’m a middle-class, middle-aged white woman living in the Midwest. As such, I enjoy certain perks that lots of Americans simply don’t.

Even if I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt, I can feel pretty confident walking into any public space or business and feel comfortable, even if it’s a “nice” store or venue…
