Brought to You by Millennial Pink

We kick off this week’s quickie by talking about a subject we’ve been obsessed about for a while — Millennial Pink.

If you haven’t heard of this concept, there are some great primers here, here, and here. But there are approximately 5,000 thinkpieces about it on the internet, so take your pick.

Sketch in London. Millennial pink HEAVEN.

Why are we so obsessed with this color? And why does it make us want to buy stuff? Branding scheme or actual link to sophistication? Suave duped these ladies with millennial pink bottles for this ad campaign. Guess we’re all suckers.

Speaking of beauty brand campaigns: this one from Dove was much strangers. As part of its Real Beauty campaign, Dove released an ad touting 7 limited-edition body wash bottles that supposedly reflect different women’s body types. Uh, does anyone care that a bath product is shaped like them? Does this make you at all more comfortable in your body? Don’t women have more than 7 shapes? Why are our complex, beautiful, and diverse shapes being compared to plastic? Of course, the internet had a lot of fun with this. We’ll consider this another marketing fail.

Now onto our not-so-hot takes on #MetGala fashion! This year’s exhibit at the Met honors Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo, who is known for her sculptural designs. The age-old discussion to go on-theme or off-theme rages on on the internet, but just know that Anna Wintour’s got ’em all under her thumb. Here’s who we dug: Rihanna (Met Gala QUEEN and red carpet shut-downer), Lily Aldridge, Priyanka Chopra, Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Solange, Zendaya, and Gigi Hadid.

P.S. if you dig fashion and art, you should definitely check out the documentary First Monday on May, which is all about putting together the annual fashion exhibits at the Met and the subsequent opening gala.
