New Open Access Course for World No Tobacco Day 2021
The Pandemic and the importance of living healthy
Smoking is known to be a huge risk factor for cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and cancer — to name but a few. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of healthy living and given people yet another reason to quit tobacco, due to the increased risk of severe disease or mortality from COVID-19 in smokers.
Each year on 31st May, the World Health Organisation celebrates World No Tobacco Day to fight the smoking epidemic. In celebration of World No Tobacco Day, we, in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care, have created a new free open access course “Smoking and Public Health”. Created by Dr Paula Whittaker, this course explores factors which lead to some people being more likely to smoke than others, how the impact of smoking on health is measured across the population, evidence on the use and safety of e-cigarettes and what public health measures can be implemented to reduce harm from smoking.
You can access this free course via our Open Access website. It should take around 3 hours in total to complete and includes reading, videos and interactive quizzes! https://catalogue.manchester.ac.uk/browse/i3hs/open-courses/
