Compliance Officer

11/2010 — present
A small rating agency (with a big name) once decided to enter a war of titans. When the European Union introduced a new regulation as a reaction to misuse of credit ratings in cases such as Enron, Parmalat etc. it was quite a huge challenge to obtain the status of registered credit rating agency for such a small agency.
EUROPEAN RATING AGENCY, a.s.
Knowing me as an experienced rating agency alumn, they called me to help with this project. I was (and still am) eager to jump into missions impossible so I took over the task to lead project team for adaptation of agency for compliance with the conditions of the new EU regulation.
I designed and developed internal procedures and policies for all activities of the agency in accordance with Regulation of the European Parliament and Council (EC) on credit rating agencies. These included internal documentation for company organization, daily operation, supervision and reporting.
Being a part of a team of people experienced in the field and novices, as the Chief Analyst, I was responsible for overall transformation of internal processes. That time the regulatory institution was the National Bank of Slovakia.
Moreover, I provided consulting to transformation of methodology for rating analytical activities.
On the business side, I cooperated in developing the vision and strategy for the company, participated in preparation and presented several cases of strategic business development.
To fulfill the regulatory body’s (now the European Securities and Markets Authority based in Paris) requirement for supervision, I established and internal information and reporting system.
After the license was successfully obtained, I stayed at the agency to conduct ongoing supervision of compliance with regulatory requirements.
Having my mission fulfilled, I am now consulting the team in compliance, regulatory affairs, operation, business and sometimes financial and non-financial issues in the rating projects. I consider my highest achievement turning a fresh graduate into successor of mine as the full-fledged Compliance Officer.
This post is a part of my CV on Medium. You don’t need to tap the heart unless you are my future employer ;)
