Workshop on Deep Learning for NLP and Computer Vision

When it comes to learning, we’re always eager to contribute and share some of our knowledge, increasing the awareness of artificial intelligence.

Every spring, Faculty of Computer Science Iași in collaboration with Iași Computer Science Students Association (ASII) are organizing an workshop series event for students called FII Practic with topics on web development, soft skills and this year on AR/VR and artificial intelligence.

For the artificial intelligence section of the event, we’ve planned a 5 weeks introductory workshop on Deep Learning for NLP (natural language processing) and Computer Vision where Alex Movila, our trainer went through some of the deep learning concepts, following the agenda from below:

• Introduction to Deep Learning: NN fundamentals, NN training algo: gradient descent + backpropagation, regularization
• Deep Sequence Modeling: RNN, LSTM, embeddings, NMT (neural machine translator), Transformer
• Deep Computer Vision: CNN
• Deep Generative Modeling: GANs, VAEs

Although the event took place virtually, we were pleased by the feedback we quickly got from the participants, right after the first week of the workshop and by their interest and passion.
