æternity Starfleet India is working towards setting up a platform that will help India’s startup ecosystem leverage blockchain technology to scale up. In our partnership with AE Ventures, we have covered a significant amount of ground, and we want to share our progress with you.

We’re happy to announce that about 176 blockchain projects and registered startups have signed up for the accelerator from all over India. After all, startup folk in India are driven with a vision to scale, #BUIDL and innovate. They will spare no opportunity, and Starfleet India has the whole package: initial capital investment, mentorship, go-to-market opportunities, and tech-based assistance in building blockchain solutions on the æternity blockchain.

With a mindset to evangelise the æternity blockchain and the Starfleet accelerator to India’s tech and startup community, we organised two local meetups, launched Starfleet, hosted a workshop at Genesis DevCon (a blockchain developer conference we organised), and got in touch with a great many startups, inviting them to join the accelerator.

æternity Starfleet MeetUp — Bangalore and Hyderabad

Bangalore City is a melting pot of startups in India. In Oct 2019, we organised a very memorable meetup to kickstart æternity’s Starfleet’s mission to reach out to India’s startup and developer community.

The meetup brought together a crowd of developers, startups, and blockchain enthusiasts in Koramangala, a bustling startup hub in the City, at the Synup office space. With an agenda to have engaging learning experience about blockchain and æternity, the meetup was kickstarted by Ashish Chawla — the æternity India Ambassador, and Milen Radkov — a æternity Developer. Their tech talks introduced the audience to the æternity Blockchain, the Starfleet Accelerator, and all things blockchain.

The two tech talks were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Raghu Mohan, CEO of IBC Media, on several aspects of creating products in India with blockchain tech. The panellists were a mix of professionals from different fields of work: Ravi Vyas — CEO, NextStepHQ; Prashanth Swaminathan — CEO, Tandem — a crypto-trading platform; Delroy Bosco — Project Manager, Matic Network.

The Hyderabad Meetup was another engaging event that brought together several blockchain and startup enthusiasts from around the city to the Redbrick Offices Coworking Spaces, Gachibowli in November 2019. There was an interesting panel discussion that also explored what went into creating blockchain solutions and products in the Indian startup landscape considering the talent, resources (like funding), and growth opportunities. The panel was moderated by Raghu Mohan (yes, our CEO does have a flair for moderating panels), and included the following panellists: Sid Chakravarthy — CEO, STATWIG; Avinash Pitti — CTO, Nucleus Vision; Pavan Adipuram — CEO, ChitMonks; Ajay Chakravarthy — Partner, Stargate.

Both the meetups were concluded with pitching sessions which gave startups a chance to bag an interview with the awesome folks at AE Ventures.

æternity at Genesis DevCon

We conducted Genesis DevCon, a blockchain research-oriented conference in November 2019. The Devcon showcased a variety of industry experts, developers and researchers who conducted tech talks based on their expertise in the field of blockchain technology. Adding to those sensational set of tech talks and panel discussions was our announcement of the Starfleet India accelerator. Luka Sučić — Director of investments, AE Ventures, and IBC Media’s Raghu Mohan announced and launched Starfleet India officially and registrations were open.

In addition to this, Yanislav Malahov — Founder and CEO, æternity blockchain, gave an awe-inspiring tech talk of how he built the æternity blockchain, spoke about its vision and its ability to serve as a platform that will enable the creation of next-gen blockchain solutions, heading towards a decentralised world.

However, we weren’t done! We wanted to give the audience a holistic dosage of the exceptional blockchain protocol that æternity is! Milen Radkov — a blockchain developer at æternity, conducted a workshop on how to build dApps or æpps on the æternity blockchain using the Sophia programming language.

Looking to the future

In the baseball movie Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner’s character — Ray Kinsella stated that if you build it, they will come. In the case of Starfleet India, the startup community in India did recognise the possibility of building the best version of their ideas and they joined us. Starfleet is building a platform that is equipped with every aspect of helping a set of driven individuals bring their ideas to life in the economy of an emerging technology like blockchain.

We concluded the registrations on 9 February 2020 and have begun setting up interviews with our registrants. The AE Team is eager to meet with the registrants to learn more about their projects and how Starfleet can enable their products to come to fruition.

Presently, we’re gearing up for the æternity Starfleet boot camp — the Genesis Week that is set to take place between 2–8 March. We have an awesome line-up of mentors who are some distinguished individuals in their respective fields. Stay tuned to learn more about them.

And don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted with all other updates that will lead up to the Genesis Week. We’d like to wish all the participants the very best! Stay in touch.

In closing, we’re going to make a Star Trek reference.
