Argentina can only be understood through “la grieta”, that irreparable and perpetual fracture between River and Boca, Los Redondos and Cerati, penguins and gorillas. Also, between those from the provinces and those from Buenos Aires, between those who say “publicity” and those who say “propaganda”, between Lanata and 6,7,8, between rochas and chetas, and between Mirtha and Susana. Even the highest peak in America, Aconcagua, and the lowest point, Laguna del Carbón, both in our country, respond to the polarity of our society.

Here, the end of the world always seems just around the corner but rarely arrives. Perhaps because of this, we have the highest number of psychologists per capita in the world, 202 per 100,000. Oh, and 40 million football — the real one — coaches.

We Argentinians are so used to living on the edge that we invented the art of tying everything together with wire, or, as we say, “atar todo con alambre.” We are a creative and ingenious country, guided by our survival instinct.
