“So what have you been up to for the past twenty years?”

The follow-up to Irvine Welsh’s 1996 cult classic Trainspotting hits cinemas on January 27 and you can glimpse what you’re in for with the new trailer.

The sequel, once again directed by Danny Boyle, is loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s novel Porno and reunites all four surviving characters from the 1996 original, including Renton (Ewan McGregor), Begbie (Robert Carlyle), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Spud (Ewen Bremner).

The short clip offers a modern take on the classic voiceover (‘Trainspotting’ by John Hodge) that opens up the film, weaving in contemporaneous references like Twitter, “zero hour contracts”, “revenge porn” and “slut shaming.”

The soundtrack, which was also released with the trailer, has been getting a ton of praise and attention immediately.
