This release focuses on integrations and currency. Cloud Foundry 3.1.0 continues to upgrade the core Cloud Foundry levels and bundled extensions. There are many UI enhancements when you move from v1 to v2 of the IBM Cloud Foundry Console. IBM Private Cloud platform provides your enterprise with access to a number of local and public integration stories

Cloud Foundry

With the 3.1.0 release, IBM Cloud Foundry moves from cf-releases to cf-deployments. This aligns with the community and helps simplify updates by using smaller components. These changes make IBM Cloud Foundry current with the community offerings. IBM Cloud Foundry 3.1.0 offers all of this while, maintaining the solid, thoroughly tested Cloud Foundry solution enterprise customers expect. The ability to exchange specific components opens a wide set of possibilities with Garage Services. You can customize your deployments to better match your applications and data center profiles.

Installation Console

The installer console helps improve the steps you need to initially deploy and upgrade your IBM Cloud Foundry. You can use the web accessible console to submit your deployment configuration (installation and upgrade) and monitor its status graphically. This method extends into multi-deployment management, making it simpler to deploy, update, and maintain your platforms.

IBM Cloud Foundry Console

Following its community roots, IBM Cloud Foundry Console gets a major bump to v2. This update brings several changes, along with IBM enhancements to the UI. First, services and the marketplace are now front and center in the navigation pane. The console is now fully configured as part of the installation and upgrade routines, so it is ready to use the moment you complete your installation. It is easier than ever to connect the console to all your IBM Cloud Foundry local and IBM Cloud Public environments. The UI persists which Cloud Foundry platforms are configured by each user. Once the endpoints are configured (using a simple wizard), you can filter, manage, and deploy new applications to any of the controlled platforms.

Local and Public Services

With the release of 3.1.0, you can deploy a Local Service Broker on IBM Cloud Private Kubernetes. The Local Service Broker allows the following five data services that are ready for your immediate use:

  • PostgresSQL
  • MariaDB
  • RabbitMQ
  • DB2
  • MongoDB

These services are available in IBM Cloud Foundry’s marketplace. The services can be shared to specific organizations in your environment. Each instance of a service, results in the deployment of a Helm chart based on the guidelines of the service plan. The full set of catalog commands is available from the cf-cli. Contact your IBM Sales team to discuss further extending any Helm chart in the IBM Cloud Private Kubernetes environment. (This capability becomes available in early October.)

Public Cloud Marketplace

In October IBM exposes its IBM Cloud Public services to your local IBM Cloud Foundry marketplace. Using your IBM Cloud ID, you are able to connect your local service catalog to the same IBM services available to your IBM Cloud Public account. Billing is associated with the account you use when you set up the connection to the marketplace. This provides access to cloud-based services such as Watson AI, ObjectStore, and numerous data services.
