Think 2018 will feature all of IBM’s essential technologies in one place, including Cloud and Data, Blockchain, infrastructure, and AI. The IBM Cloud Garage consultancy of cloud architects and solution engineers will be there as presenters, lab instructors, and advisors in the Cloud and Data Campus. This post highlights their sessions and discussions to help you plan your agenda!

Watson can help with your agenda for Think 2018

Remember to block out time to talk with them at the conference Campus. They will welcome your thoughts and questions on how your company can take advantage of IBM’s cloud technology and the Garage’s client-tested practices of IBM Design Thinking, agile development and cloud reference architectures.

Tip: Use promo code TK18COM and take $300 off your conference registration fee.

IBM Cloud

The IBM Cloud Garage consultants work closely with clients to quickly design, build, and deploy an MVP application. Through their experience, we’ve created the IBM Cloud Garage Method that documents proven practices that span the full development and deployment lifecycle. Check out these sessions! Then bring your ideas and challenges to the Cloud and Data Campus to discuss them with a cloud architect or solution engineer.

  • Build Microservices Cloud Native Applications and CI/CD Pipelines on IBM Cloud Private
Come and learn step-by-step how to build and deploy a microservices-based application on IBM Cloud Private (ICP). In the first part of the lab, you’ll learn the basics of Docker, Kubernetes and the IBM Cloud Private (Kubernetes) runtime. You’ll gain hands-on experience on how to use popular frameworks like Spring and Node.js to develop, package, and deploy a microservices applications on ICP. In the second part of the lab, you’ll learn how to create CI/CD DevOps pipelines via Jenkins pipelines, and link those pipelines to a Git repository to automatically trigger the building and deployment of microservices.
  • Kubernetes 101 with IBM Cloud Private
Kubernetes has recently emerged as a platform of choice for container-based cloud. In this lab, you will install Kubernetes in a laptop, along with the kubectl client and Helm configurations. Then, you will practice the basic concepts of Kubernetes (Pod, ReplicaSet, Deployment, etc.), and how to use Helm charts. Finally, you will perform the same operations in an IBM Cloud Private environment.
  • How to Make the IBM Cloud Garage Method Work for a Team that Isn’t Sure
The Cloud Garage method is a proven set of practices for delivering value. In its purest form, it combines lean startup, extreme programming, and design thinking. It works very well in both small and large organizations, but it does involve some organizational transformation. The Garage experts have worked with clients at all stages of that transformation, and will share tips and strategies for getting more agile, without tears.
  • Become an IBM Cloud Architect in 40 Minutes
In this fast-paced presentation, we’ll whistle through all the essentials of IBM Cloud architecture from an experienced solution architect’s perspective. If you’re developing or deploying on IBM Cloud, you need to know this stuff. We’ll provide an overview of what’s it’s capable of, discussing: Cloud Foundry, IBM Cloud Functions, containers and Docker, infrastructure services, and any of the services on IBM Cloud — from databases through to Watson. We’ll also discuss the deployment models for IBM Cloud itself, from public multi-tenancy all the way through to local on-premise clouds. This is the fastest IBM Cloud architecture education overview you’ll ever see!

Data and Analytics

Identify hidden patterns in your data. Turn it into relevant insights so you can confidently, and quickly, take action to improve your business. Don’t just see your data — maximize its value. Whether you’re well on your way to an advanced practice of data science and data analytics or only need expertise for integration, governance, and security compliance both on-premises and in the cloud, the IBM Cloud Garage can guide you.

  • Exploring Options to Move Your Data Warehouse to IBM’s Software-Defined Private Cloud Platform
IBM Db2 Warehouse is a software-defined environment that allows you to create a data warehouse behind your company’s firewall, while simultaneously providing cloud-like scalability and appliance-like simplicity. This lab will first introduce how to migrate from traditional database platforms like Db2 and PureData System for Analytics to the IBM Db2 Warehouse. Next, attendees will get hands-on experience migrating database objects to the IBM Db2 Warehouse. Finally, various options to transfer data will be explored, such as via Db2 Support Tools, built-in commands, and the web console UI.
  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture Reference Patterns for Analytics Use Cases
Join this session to learn about the work and outputs of the IBM Hybrid Cloud Architecture team to identify and articulate the reference architectures necessary to support the most critical, industry-relevant analytics and machine learning use cases. Learn how a focus on identifying key pattern components, understanding the required use case driven use of these components, matching this up with the array of choices available, and the correlation with IBM offerings and capabilities make the work key to assisting clients with the right cloud architecture to meet their business goals.
  • Methods of loading data into DB2 data warehouse on cloud
IBM Db2 Warehouse on Cloud is a fully-managed, enterprise-class, cloud data warehouse service. You can load data from a variety of sources into IBM Db2 Warehouse on Cloud. This lab will demonstrate a range of data loading techniques, like data loading from local files or local compress files or from other clouds like S3; and loading using ETL tools, REST APIs, dashboard console, on-premise databases or any heterogeneous sources like non-IBM data sources or Twitter data or from public datasets. After completing this lab user can identify data volume and nature of data (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) and apply right techniques to load data quickly and easily into IBM Db2 Warehouse on Cloud.

Cloud Integration

There are many things to consider on the way to the cloud. The IBM Cloud Garage consultants can help spell out all the aspects of migrating to the cloud for you, including what’s involved with application migration, migrating as-is, refactoring, modernizing, integration, operations, and approaches for building applications in the cloud.

  • Deploy Enterprise Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry in Your Private Datacenter with IBM
With IBM Cloud Private, you can deliver elastic, cloud-like capabilities within your datacenter using a pre-assembled, scalable, highly available Platform-as-a-Service with a blend of Enterprise Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry. Out-of-the-box, IBM Cloud Private is designed to seamlessly integrate with your datacenter’s operational best practices and deliver a broad catalog of IBM and open source middleware delivered as containers. In this session, we’ll show you how you can turn your own private datacenter into your own private cloud.
  • Continuing your Transition to Cloud: Migrating, Modernizing and Building on the Cloud
You have started your journey to cloud, but still have many workloads and applications to transition to cloud. How do you decide which workloads to transition, to which types of cloud(s) they should go, and how to move them? No group will have one answer for all their workloads, and not every workload will move the same way. This session will cover the decisions that have to be made, including which workloads to migrate to cloud as-is, which to refactor or modernize, and which to build directly on the cloud. Based on those decisions, we will show you examples of tools, techniques and methods that we use to analyze and execute the transitions.
  • Lloyds Banking Group’s Journey to Become PSD2 and Open Banking Compliant Using IBM API Connect
PSD2 and Open Banking is being introduced across Europe as a way of standardizing, integrating and improving payment efficiency while promoting innovation and offering better consumer protection. However, as these regulations are new, most of the banks embarking on this journey are on a path of discovery and making decisions based on best judgement rather than experience. This session provides practical insight into becoming Open Banking compliant based on the collaborative efforts of Lloyds Banking Group and IBM using IBM API Connect. We will focus on the high-level solution in addition to diving deeper on some of the critical components, such as Open ID Connect based security and the developer portal experience.
