It was a happy coincidence when we found out that our IBM Corporate Service Corps assignment would be during the same month as the Indian celebration of Holi, March. Now what’s Holi, you ask? SO. MUCH. COLOUR.

Holi with the Don Bosco children

Holi is an ancient Hindu spring festival originating in the Indian subcontinent. Today it is celebrated in many places around the world and events such as the “colour run” are based off of this concept. The festival celebrates the arrival of spring and the end of winter but it is also a way to show love through throwing colours on others and wishing them a “Happy Holi.” Here in India, Holi is a national holiday so the country spends the morning in the streets celebrating by playing with colours and enjoying music.

IBM team celebrating Holi at Don Bosco

The IBM CSC team based here in Chandigarh spent the day with two of our clients — NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research and my team’s client, Don Bosco Navjeevan Society Chandigarh. They graciously hosted us with their families and friends for dancing, great Indian food and lots of colour!!

We had so much fun and it was a privilege to get to experience just one of India’s many festivals first hand. Truly a once in a lifetime experience!
