Value of Teaming

During the 2nd week of my IBM Corporate Service Corps assignment in Thailand, I was reminded of the value of teaming. Whether it’s in sports or in work, there’s much value in learning to work as a team. Individuals can accomplish much by individuals, but there is synergy in team work that can produce far great results than simply by working alone.

Our team is composed of four individuals with varying backgrounds, including HR, Software/Cloud, Strategic Consulting, and Engineering/Project Management. We come with a wide range of education, experience, and perspectives. Therefore, it has been critical for us to spend time aligning our thoughts, ideas, and insights before moving forward in any direction.

Through trial-and-error, we have learned how to better communicate with one another. We have learned the value of being bold and transparent to express ideas while giving each other enough space so that no one becomes closed off from the discussion. We have learned more about our own weaknesses and how we each need to grow so that we can become a higher functioning team.

I am proud that our team members are using this CSC opportunity to learn more about themselves, to further develop their skills in communication and consultation, and to be an effective part of a high-performing team. Our team has worked well at identifying and utilizing each other’s strengths to accomplish much on behalf of the team. We are half-way through our assignment, and I cannot wait to see all that is accomplished in and through this team!
